Privacy Policy

This policy explains what White Whale ("we", "us" — operated by The White Whale Crew) collects, why, and what you can do about it. We keep it plain on purpose.

What we collect

• Account details — your email address, and a password managed by our authentication provider (we never see it in plain text).
• Your hunts — the items you're searching for: descriptions, keywords, price ranges, sizes, and any reference photos you upload of a piece.
• Optional location — if you choose to search local marketplaces, your city and state (never a street address) to scope those results near you.
• Results & activity — the listings we surface for you, your saves and dismissals, and basic usage needed to run your monthly hunt allowance.
• Standard technical data — a login session cookie, and ordinary server logs (such as IP address and browser type) needed to operate and secure the service.

Why we collect it

• To run your hunts, match listings, and send you the alerts you asked for.
• To maintain your account and enforce plan limits.
• To operate, secure, debug, and improve the service.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data with service providers only to make the product work:

• Hosting & database — our cloud infrastructure and database provider stores your account, hunts, and images.
• AI matching — to score visual matches, we send reference and candidate images to our AI provider. Images are sent to generate a match; they are not used to identify you.
• Search & marketplace sources — we query marketplace and search APIs (for example eBay and web search) using your hunt's terms to find listings.
• Email — we use an email provider to deliver your alerts and account messages.
• Affiliate networks — when you click through to a marketplace, standard affiliate tracking may attribute the visit so we can earn a commission (see below).

Affiliate links

Some outbound links to marketplaces are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commission never affects which listings we show you — we surface the item that matches.

Retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time (see below); we may retain limited records where required for legal or security reasons.

Your choices & rights

• You can view and edit your hunts, and delete reference images, from within the app.
• You can opt out of non-essential emails; essential account and sighting messages remain.
• You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by emailing us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA.

Children

White Whale is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

We'll update this page when our practices change and revise the date above.
